Greetings From Your New Principal
August 3, 2017
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Friends of Murray Hill Middle School,
Hi, my name is Lisa Smithson. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share my excitement about being assigned as the new Principal of Murray Hill Middle School. I am going into my 20th year as an educator with the Howard County Public School System, where I have served as a teacher and an administrator at both the elementary and middle school levels. I was born and raised in Columbia, MD, and am a product of HCPSS schools, and currently raising two high school students in HCPSS.
Today, marks my first official day on the job; however, I have been communicating and working with Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Harmon to prepare myself for this transition during the last week. I would like to thank both of them for their support during this transition period. Today, I have had the pleasure of working with several staff members to make preparations to have an excellent school year.
I would like for each of you to know that I am committed to providing an engaging academic environment for all students and building a school community in which the well-being of each and every one of our students is consistently the priority. I look forward to working with the MHMS staff to provide our students with challenging and rigorous academics as well as meaningful experiences to enrich their growth and development. I will encourage all of the staff and students at MHMS to stretch themselves to achieve their ultimate potential. I am excited to meet with students and families over the coming months to hear your ideas about what we want for the future of Murray Hill Middle School. I think you will find me to be open, honest and caring. I look forward to earning your trust and respect.
Within the next week, I plan to meet with PTA President, Femi Williams, to discuss the many ways that the PTA supports the Murray Hill Middle School community, and how we can continue to work together to enhance the learning environment for all of our students.
We are currently in the process of scheduling a “Meet and Greet” event, so that I have the opportunity to engage with many of you before the start of the school year. Information will be coming soon.
In the meantime, I am continuing to hire staff, supervise the preparing of the building for the upcoming school year, and develop a plan to welcome over 600 students back to school in September. If you would like to contact me, the best way is to email me at Lisa_Smithson@hcpss.org, or to contact Mrs. Byrd, my secretary, at 410 880-5897.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Lisa R. Smithson
