A Note From The Principal

Dear MHMS Families,

Fall pictures will be taken on October 15th.  All students will be photographed for the purpose of the MHMS Yearbook.  If you wish to purchase fall pictures, picture package options were sent home with students last week.  Please complete the appropriate information and submit payment on October 15th, or order and pay online in advance, at mylifetouch.com, and use Picture Day ID:  MJ018394Q0.  Please consider ordering school pictures, as it is a great keepsake, and also serves as a fundraiser for our school.

It has come to our attention that there are times when vehicles are blocking the entranceways of the residents of the neighborhoods that surround MHMS.  Please be cognizant of blocking entranceways, driveways, or hindering any passing or movement on the roads as you drop off or pick up your students.  Please also, refrain from leaving your vehicle unattended in any area that may hinder traffic from freely moving, or blocking a parked vehicle.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

At this time 72% of our families have completed Family File, through HCPSS Connect (this is a 3% increase from last week)!  If you have not completed this very important task yet, please do so this weekend.  Your Family File must be updated and verified at the start of each school year.  Among other things, Family File provides MHMS with contact information, emergency contact information, health information, and different preferences which helps us to ensure the safety of your student.  Please visit:  https://www.hcpss.org/connect/ to update your Family File.  If you have any difficulties accessing or completing Family File, please contact our Front Office Staff at 410-880-5897.

Sincerely,

Lisa R. Smithson

Principal

Fundraiser packets were sent home with students on Thursday.  Profits will benefit the MHMS PBIS program along with other initiatives for our school community.  The fundraiser will run through October 19th.  Products will be delivered before Thanksgiving, and will be available for pick-up during the November Parent Teacher Conferences.  We thank you in advance for your support.  To order online visit www.yankeecandlefundraising.com, and use MHMS Group Number 990033454.  See the attached for more information regarding online sales:  MHMSYankeeCandleOnllineOrdering.pdf

Yearbook Sales:  MHMS Memory Books are on sale now!  Flyers were sent home with students this week, so that you can secure your copy of the 2018-2019 school year!  Orders can also be submitted online through ybpay.lifetouch.com using Yearbook ID Code 13198619.

MAP Testing:  This year, students will engage in the fall administration of the MAP test through their content classes.  The Reading MAP test will be conducted through three periods of ELA classes, and the Math MAP test will be conducted through three periods of math classes.  All students will engage in both tests, except 7th grade Algebra students and 8th grade Geometry students will not take the Math MAP test.  Please see the calendar above for the specific dates for MAP testing.  Please do all that you can to avoid scheduling appointments during testing; research shows that students perform better on standardized tests when taken during the scheduled testing time.  If a student is absent during the test administration or is unable to complete the test during the three class periods set aside, we will facilitate make-up sessions so that all students have ample opportunity to engage in the test.  If you have any questions regarding MAP testing, please feel free to contact Ms. Couch, Assistant Principal.

MHMS Fall Fling:  Our Annual Fall Fling event is scheduled for Friday, October 26th.  Ticket sales will begin on October 16th during lunch shifts.  The cost of tickets is $5.00 or 30 Gotcha’s.  In order for students to obtain a ticket, their Family File must be complete/updated.  Additionally, students must have turned in their signed HCPSS Student Code of Conduct form to their DEN teacher.  Please see the attached flyer for more information. 2018 Fall Fling Permission Form.docx

8th Grade News

8th Grade Field Trip:  The 8th grade class has a field trip coming up on Friday, November 16th (the Friday before Thanksgiving Break). 8th grade students will go to the Newseum to see how newspapers and reporters have shaped our history. We will then go to the National Mall where students can visit a variety of memorials, monuments, and museums. This is an extended day trip, so students will need to arrive to school at our regular entry time of 8:15, but will need to be picked up at approximately 4:00 p.m. If your student is going home with someone other than their own parent/guardian, please send a note to Ms. Schaefer. Permission slips were sent home and are due back to Ms. Schaefer as soon as possible.

Please use the this link to submit your $25.00 payment.  And be sure to complete and return both the permission slip and the medical form to Ms. Schaefer as soon as possible.       DC Student Permission Slip 2018.pdf   Medical Form.pdf
