A Note From The Principal

Dear MHMS Families,

It has been an awesome first week at Murray Hill Middle School.  After four short days, our students have settled into the school routine!  They have memorized locker combinations, located each of their classes, and they are well aware of the Murray Hill Way!

This week our students met daily in DEN groups.  DEN stands for Discuss, Enrich and Nurture.  Starting next week, students will meet with their DEN groups every Thursday morning.  During DEN Time, teachers will facilitate community circles in which students engage in conversations and activities geared to build community and serve as an avenue for students to discuss topics that are relevant to the Murray Hill Middle School community and beyond.

Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 13th, starting at 6:30 p.m.  The program is intended for parents, so please make arrangements for your students to stay at home for the evening.  When you arrive, you will report directly to your students DEN classroom, where you will receive a printed copy of your student’s schedule.  During the evening, you will have the opportunity to visit each of your student’s classes, and teachers will share information regarding their courses and their classroom expectations.

Please note that prior to Back To School Night, Mr. Dunbar will host a GT Orientation, starting at 5:45 p.m. in the Media Center.  Mr. Dunbar will share information regarding Gifted and Talented opportunities at Murray Hill Middle School.

At this time 49% of families have completed Family File, through HCPSS Connect!  If you have not completed this very important task yet, please do so this weekend.  Your Family File must be updated and verified at the start of each school year.  Among other things, Family File provides MHMS with contact information, emergency contact information, health information, and different preferences which helps us to ensure the safety of your student.  Please visit:  https://www.hcpss.org/connect/ to update your Family File.  If you have any difficulties accessing or completing Family File, please contact our Front Office Staff at 410-880-5897.

Finally, please be patient as we continue to work towards balancing our class sizes in order to provide the best learning environment for all of our students.  As we work on this, students may potentially receive schedule changes through next week.

Sincerely,

Lisa R. Smithson

Principal
