A Note From The Principal

Dear MHMS Families,

Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 28th, starting at 6:30 p.m.  The program is intended for parents, so please make arrangements for your students to stay at home for the evening.  When you arrive, you will report directly to your students DEN classroom, where you will receive a printed copy of your student’s schedule.  During the evening, you will have the opportunity to visit each of your student’s classes and teachers will share information regarding their courses and their classroom expectations.

Please note that prior to Back To School Night, we will have several presentations intended to orient parents to some of the different programs that we offer at Murray Hill Middle School. Mr. Dunbar will host a GT Orientation, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center.  Mr. Dunbar will share information regarding Gifted and Talented opportunities at Murray Hill Middle School.  Also, Mrs. Bacmeister will facilitate a Spanish Language Session Back to School Night beginning at 5:30 p.m. in room 109.  Finally, Ms. Whye will host a BSAP Information Session beginning at 6:00 p.m. in room 224.

At this time 50% of families have completed Family File, through HCPSS Connect!  If you have not completed this very important task yet, please do so this weekend.  Your Family File must be updated and verified at the start of each school year.  Among other things, Family File provides MHMS with contact information, emergency contact information, health information, and different preferences which helps us to ensure the safety of your student.  Please visit:  http://www.hcpss.org/news-posts/2017/08/update-your-family-file-information-before-school-begins/ to update your Family File.  If you have any difficulties accessing or completing Family File, please contact our Front Office Staff at410-880-5897.

Sincerely,

Lisa R. Smithson

You will be notified of the new clinic date as soon as it is determined. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

Heart & Sole (aka Girls on the Run):  Heart & Sole is Girls on the Run’s new program for middle school girls! Heart & Sole creates a positive, structured space for middle school girls to learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy, strengthen connections and develop life skills that will help them as they move through adolescence and beyond.  At Girls on the Run, we believe that adolescents bring a lot to the table. We also know that girls at this age often sort through conflicting messages about their worth, their abilities and their value. Our middle school program helps girls develop the skills to tune into their own truths and to unleash their power to live confidently and joyfully. The program combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) celebratory event at the conclusion of the season. The program runs for 10 weeks from September 27 - December 8. Registration is now open at gotrcentralmd.org  Practices will be held at Murray Hill from 3:10-4:30 Wednesdays and Thursdays.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Sara Tagliaferri, Mrs. Christine Donnell, or Ms. Molly Schaefer.
