A Message from the Principal

Dear MHMS Community,

This message is to address concerns that have been brought to my attention by both students and parents regarding statements and/or social media posts that allegedly have been made pertaining to a threat to our school community.  I would like to thank those who have shared information, and assure all of our families that the safety of our students and staff is the number one priority at MHMS and that I take any kind of threatening statement seriously, and follow through with very specific actions, per HCPSS procedures.

In regards to this particular alleged threat, MHMS administration has been working with the HCPSS Office of Security as well as the Howard County Police Department.  Based on the Howard County Police investigation, there is no evidence of a credible threat to MHMS.  We will continue to follow up on each and every report that is brought to our attention.  We commit to staying vigilant, and we need the help of our entire school community to aide us in providing a safe environment for all.  I will continue to urge my students and my families to embrace the mantra of “see something, say something.”  We all have a responsibility to keep one another informed of potentially harmful situations.

Again, thank you to those of you who reached out to me directly to share information, and welcome all families to reach out to me at any time.

Sincerely,

Lisa R. Smithson

Principal
