A Note From The Principal

Dear MHMS Families,

We have made significant improvement in our completion of Family File.  At this time, over 82% of our families have completed Family File, through HCPSS Connect!  If you have not completed this very important task yet, please do so this weekend.  Your Family File must be updated and verified at the start of each school year.  Among other things, Family File provides MHMS with contact information, emergency contact information, health information, and different preferences which helps us to ensure the safety of your student.  Please visit:  https://www.hcpss.org/connect/ to update your Family File.  If you have any difficulties accessing or completing Family File, please contact our Front Office Staff at 410-880-5897.

Thank you to all of the families who attended our Grassroots Concert at Reservoir High School this week.  We were able to collect $1400.00 in donations for Grassroots of Howard County.  MHMS students will continue with other fundraising efforts throughout the year to support this important resource for our county.  For more information about Grassroots and the services provided, visit their website at https://grassrootscrisis.org/.

Sincerely,

Lisa R. Smithson

News From The Hill

School News

MHMS Winter Bazaar:  The Winter Bazaar is in need of your donated items!  The Winter Bazaar is a small store filled with items that students can purchase using their Gotcha’s.  Donated items include, but are not limited to, books, candles, jewelry, games, household items, decorative items, baby items, toys, movies, CDs, etc.  Items can be new or gently used.  The success of the event is dependent on donations; anything you can donate would be appreciated!  Students really enjoy being able to “purchase” these items for their friends and family.  All donations can be dropped off in the front office, or Ms. Hodder’s classroom (room 106).  We will begin collecting items on November 1st and will accept donations through the month of November.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Behrens (laura_behrens@hcpss.org).  Thanks for your support.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser:  If you did not have the opportunity to place a paper order for our Yankee Candle Fundraiser, online orders will be accepted through January, and MHMS will still receive 40% profit for all online sales.  Please consider supporting the MHMS Yankee Candle Fundraiser by visiting https://www.yankeecandlefundraising.com/store.htm.  We thank you in advance for your support.  See the attached for online sales: MHMSYankeeCandleOnllineOrdering.pdf

Yearbook Sales:  MHMS Memory Books are on sale now!  Flyers were sent home with students, so that you can secure your copy of the 2018-2019 school year!  Orders can also be submitted online through ybpay.lifetouch.com using Yearbook ID Code 13198619.

8th Grade News

8th Grade Field Trip:  The 8th grade class has a field trip coming up on Friday, November 16th(the Friday before Thanksgiving Break). 8th grade students will go to the Newseum to see how newspapers and reporters have shaped our history. We will then go to the National Mall where students can visit a variety of memorials, monuments, and museums. This is an extended day trip, so students will need to arrive to school at our regular entry time of 8:15, but will need to be picked up at approximately 4:00 p.m. If your student is going home with someone other than their own parent/guardian, please send a note to Ms. Schaefer. All forms and payment are due by next Friday, November 2nd.

Please use the this link to submit your $25.00 payment.  And be sure to complete both the permission slip and the medical form to Ms. Schaefer as soon as possible.  DC Student Permission Slip 2018.pdf  Medical Form.pdf

Chaperones are needed! If you wish to chaperone, please fill in the information on the bottom of the permission slip and attach payment. For any additional information, please contact Ms. Schaefer at molly_schaefer@hcpss.org.
