A Note From The Principal

Dear MHMS Families,

It has been a great week at MHMS.  We had many parents visit classes during American Education Week.  Our 6th and 7th grade students kicked-off their service learning initiatives with a presentation from Grassroots.  And our 8th grade students enjoyed music and dancing with a Puerto Rican music group, Los Hijo e Plena and also attended their field trip to the Newseum and the National Mall, in Washington, D.C.

The MHMS PTA Book Fair is currently in full swing.  Students were able to either virtually or physically visit the Book Fair today during ELA classes.  Students who purchase books will be entered in a drawing and prizes will be given each afternoon of the Fair; today I was able to give away 3 awesome prizes to students.  Please consider stopping by the Book Fair, located in the media center, during parent-teacher conferences, and support our PTA.

Sincerely,

Lisa R. Smithson

Principal

News From The Hill

School News

MHMS Attendance:  Please be reminded that if your student is absent for any reason, that it is important to provide written documentation of their absence.  Documentation should include student name, the date(s) of absence, and the reason for the absence.  Parents also have the choice to inform us of a student absence sending an email to the following address: MHMSAttendance@hcpss.org

Health Room Reminders:  Please remind your students that if they are feeling ill during the school day, that they should report to the Health Room, so that our Health Room staff can contact home if needed, rather than texting a message home without a staff member knowing of the contact.

A Reminder to Walkers:  Walkers may not return home in the morning, once on school property.  If they have forgotten an item (hw, lunch, materials), they will be directed to the front office to call a parent to determine a solution that both the parent and school staff are aware of.

Make-Up Pictures:  6th and 7th grade students who purchased fall pictures received their pictures today.  8th grade students will receive their pictures on Monday.  Please note that make-up pictures are scheduled to be taken on Monday, November 26th (the Monday we return from the Thanksgiving Break).

MHMS Winer Bazaar:  The Winter Bazaar is in need of your donated items!  The Winter Bazaar is a small store filled with items that students can purchase using their Gotcha’s.  Donated items include, but are not limited to, books, candles, jewelry, games, household items, decorative items, baby items, toys, movies, CDs, etc.  Items can be new or gently used.  The success of the event is dependent on donations; anything you can donate would be appreciated!  Students really enjoy being able to “purchase” these items for their friends and family.  All donations can be dropped off in the front office, or Ms. Hodder’s classroom (room 106).  We will begin collecting items on November 1st and will accept donations through the month of November.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Behrens (laura_behrens@hcpss.org).  Thanks for your support.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser:  If you did not have the opportunity to place a paper order for our Yankee Candle Fundraiser, online orders will be accepted through January, and MHMS will still receive 40% profit for all online sales.  Please consider supporting the MHMS Yankee Candle Fundraiser by visiting https://www.yankeecandlefundraising.com/store.htm.  We thank you in advance for your support.  See the attached for online sales:  MHMSYankeeCandleOnllineOrdering.pdf

Yearbook Sales:  MHMS Memory Books are on sale now!  Flyers were sent home with students, so that you can secure your copy of the 2018-2019 school year!  Orders can also be submitted online through ybpay.lifetouch.com using Yearbook ID Code 13198619.
