Hispanic Heritage Month recognition & celebration highlights

Dear MHMS Families, As we settle into the 2021-2022 school year, I would like to ask our families to have conversations regarding appropriate behaviors in school. At Murray Hill Middle School we embrace an environment and a community in which all students, staff, and visitors feel welcome, feel safe, and feel valued. Recently we have recognized students engaging in behaviors that are not aligned with our core values as a school community. At times, these behaviors are seen by students as playful, but the reality is they are not school appropriate. We will be conducting reminder lessons in all of our classes in the near future to “reset” and ensure that all students are reminded of our expectations. I will also begin to include a “MHMS Expectation Tip” in the Murray Messenger, so that parents continue to be reminded of our expectations and can reiterate them at home.

Dear MHMS Families, We are at the approximate halfway point of the first quarter! This is a great time to review grades in Canvas and maintain or establish a plan of action to meet your personal goals. I am looking forward to recognizing students at the end of the quarter with Honor Roll certificates.

Dear MHMS Families, During the 2020-2021 school year, students were unable to engage in the state-mandated assessment MCAP. As a result, students will engage in MCAP in both the fall and the spring of the 2021-2022 school year. The Fall MCAP assessment will assess skills that students learned during the 2020-2021 school year, and will provide teachers with data to better understand student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.

Dear MHMS Families, We are excited about Back to School Night this evening. I wanted to take a moment to share a few reminders.

Dear MHMS Families, We had an amazing first week at MHMS, and we are ready for week two! Students had the opportunity during our first week to learn about MHMS expectations, process and procedures, as well as build community in their homeroom class and other classes.

All of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from the 2020-2021 MHMS choirs performed Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" (arranged & produced by Reuben Burrows) together as a massive unified "virtual choir."
