8th Grade End of Year Events

Dear 8th grade parents/guardians,

The 8th grade team is very excited about all of the end of year opportunities coming up before the end of the school year. The purpose of this message is to share important information about upcoming events. Specific details about each event will be shared as we get closer.

  • Students have already had the opportunity to submit designs for our 8th grade t-shirt and will soon vote to select a winner. It is not mandatory to purchase a shirt, but we do hope that all students will. Your student will receive information about purchasing a t-shirt from their Social Studies teacher soon, or you will be able to order directly from the Online School Payments website. Orders are due by 3:15 on Friday, April 25th.
  • The Cruise will be on Friday, May 30th. Students will bring home a permission slip from their Social Studies teacher. The cost for this trip is $72.
  • The High School Visits will occur during the morning of Thursday, June 5th. Students will visit either Reservoir or Atholton, based on where they will be attending school next year. There is no cost for this field trip, but there will be a permission slip sent home, closer to the trip.
  • The Promotion Ceremony will be at school, on the morning of Friday, June 13th. Specific details regarding time and other important information will be shared when we are closer to the date. Each student will receive two tickets for guests to attend the event. During the ceremony, students sit on the bleachers in our gym. We strongly encourage students to wear their 8th grade t-shirt for the ceremony.

As we begin to plan for these events, we would like to share our Murray Hill expectations for students to participate in the activities. Student behavior is being routinely monitored, starting with the beginning of fourth quarter. Any student who demonstrates behavior that does not meet the Murray Hill expectations or HCPSS Code of Conduct is at risk of losing the privilege to participate in any of the activities.

From the start of the quarter (April 7th)  until the date of the trip, if a student receives two or more incident reports (not for tardies to class), or one office referral, they will be informed that they are at risk of losing their opportunities to participate, through a conversation with administration. If they continue to not meet our expectations, communication of the loss of privileges will follow, at any time up until the day of the events. Students who engage in behavior that leads to a suspension may result in the automatic loss of any of the events. If a student loses their privilege to attend due to behavior past the payment deadline for the cruise (May 5th), a refund might not be issued.

We are looking forward to celebrating these events with our 8th grade students, and hope that all students will be able to participate. We appreciate your support in reminding your student to be respectful, responsible and ready at all times throughout their school day. This includes staying focused in class and on their academics, being prepared to learn, being on time to class, keeping personal technology (cell phones and headphones) away during the school day, and demonstrating respectful behavior to all students and adults in the building.

More information will be shared about the details of each of these events, including necessary permission slips, very soon. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the 8th grade team leader, Jamie Daniller (jamie_daniller@hcpss.org) with any questions.

Thank you!

The 8th Grade Team
