BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT AT MURRAY HILL MIDDLE
When: September 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
A Canvas overview at 5:00 pm in the Media Center
Gifted and Talented Program information at 5:30 in the Cafeteria
We are excited to welcome each and every family to the 2025 Back to School Night (BTSN) at Murray Hill Middle School. Our classroom doors will open at 6:00 PM. We would like all families to arrive at their child’s DEN (homeroom) class period by 6:00 PM. We encourage you to carpool, if possible, as parking is limited. Please do not block a fire lane so we have full access to the building. Parents and guardians will have an opportunity to attend an overview of Canvas at 5:00 pm in the Media Center and a presentation on the Gifted and Talented program at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria.
What should I bring? We encourage you to bring a copy/picture of your child’s schedule with you. You can always take a picture or screenshot of their schedule from the computer/smart device. You will only go to quarter one classes for Back to School Night. You can always sit with your child to review the schedule as well. You may want to bring something so that you can take notes, if needed.
How do I access my child’s schedule? To do before BTSN
- Log in to your Synergy account atwww.hcpss.org/connect
- Once in your account, click on Student Info on the left. To see your schedule, click on Class Schedule, and you will see the schedule. In the upper right corner, you can see Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Quarter 3, Quarter 4, or All. You only need quarter 1 for Back to School Night.
If you need assistance with accessing the schedule, please see a staff member in the lobby prior to 6:00 PM. Staff will be able to assist with locating a schedule upon request, as needed.
What You Can Expect? Back to School Night will allow you to visit your child’s classrooms and meet the professionals who teach them. You will start in DEN (homeroom) class, where we will start with our welcome from the Administration. You will then have the opportunity to travel around the building to each of your child’s classes and get to know your child’s teachers better. Each class visit is only eight minutes, which is a great way for the teacher to talk to all parents at once. That said, if there is something that you would like to address with a teacher, we want to give you the time and attention you deserve, which cannot be achieved on Back to School Night. If this is the case, we respectfully request that you contact the teacher directly.
You will also have the opportunity to sign up for our PTSA, which does so much for our school. We appreciate the membership and donations as it directly support the students and staff at Murray Hill Middle School. Please consider joining as we could not do a lot of the exciting initiatives for our kids without our PTSA!
We know you are wondering if you should bring your student with you. Space is at a premium. Imagine 600+ students, plus parents, trying to move from class to class. If you are able, we ask that you come to Back to School Night without your child, as space will be limited. We have plenty of staff to help guide you where to go, as well as maps.
MURRAY HILL ROBOTICS TEAM
Are you interested in joining the Murray Hill Robotics Team? No experience required. Students can come for information on Thursday, September 4th or Monday, September 8th to Rm. 117 after school from 3:15 until 4pm. They will need a way to get home at 4 pm. Please be on time to pick up your students at 4 pm unless they walk. Students only must join us for one of the two days to find out more. If the student cannot make either date, but are interested, please contact Mr. Diehl at david_diehl@hcpss.org. There will be a cost associated with the league. We will not know until we know how many students sign up, but last year it was $50 per student.
HELP KEEP SCHOOLS PEST-FREE THIS SCHOOL YEAR
Dear Murray Hill Families:
I’m reaching out to ask for your help keeping our school pest-free all year long, and I want to share a few things to keep in mind as you send your child to school each day. Since food is one of the main reasons rodents try to get inside a building, please consider the following guidance:
- Send snacks and lunches in sealed, hard plastic or metal containers rather than loose in bags. Rodents can easily chew through paper and thin plastic.
- Use reusable lunchboxes with zipper closures, and make sure the zipper fully closes.
- Send foods with strong odors like peanut butter and sweet treats, in airtight containers.
- Remind your child to bring home any uneaten food daily—don’t store snacks in desks, lockers, or cubbies overnight.
- Make it a routine to empty and wipe down lunchboxes every day.
As a reminder, there is a lot of other helpful information about the 2025-26 school year on the HCPSS website, including back-to-school night dates, school supply lists, transportation information, and much more.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for helping to make this a great year for your child.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tammy Jones
